Different Types Of Materials For Car Seat Covers

Covers are an essential accessory to improve the interior look and feel of your car. While choosing covers for seats, the choice of material is of utmost importance. Most often car owners are confused about the material as there are many choices available.

It is important to choose the right material, especially while opting for customized seat covers for your vehicle. You have to balance aesthetics with durability, comfort and value to ensure that you get the best value for money.

Educating yourself about the different materials will help you to make an informed choice. Here is a list of some materials used for making seat covers.

  • Velour

Velour is the most common and basic seat cover material. This material mimics the look and feel of the original upholstery of the vehicle. Covers made from Velour are soft and comfortable, but when it comes to durability, they lag behind.

  • Jacquard

Jacquard is heavy and rough, when compared to velour. Covers made of jacquard feature a center panel. The material is economic and provides good protection to the seats. However, jacquard is not waterproof and also lacks durability.

  • Neoprene

Neoprene is a durable material that is a good choice for seat covers. Neoprene covers are made from the wet suit material, that is highly water and stain resistant. Neoprene covers are available in a variety of designs and colors and can be customized to fit the seats snugly.

  • Faux Leather

Leather look or faux leather seat covers provide the aesthetics of original leather covers, while being easy on the pocket. These covers are easy to clean and highly durable. Faux leather is waterproof as it has a Vinyl barrier. However, the material is not suitable for places with extreme temperatures as it tends to get hot in summers and cold in winters.

  • Carbon Fiber

Carbon fiber is breathable and compression resistant. Covers made from this material are durable and easy to maintain. The fabric is UV-resistant and protects the seats from abrasion, stains and wear and tear.

There are many other materials used to make seat covers such as denim, sheepskin, mesh, canvas etc. Choose a material that suits your requirements and the overall interior of the vehicle.
