About five years since the Orient-Express Hotel brand (with hyphen) was renamed into Belmond, and a year following Accor Hotels partnered with SNCF Group, the owner of the Orient Express brand (without hyphen), in order to launch new hotels under the brand, a new hotel is currently in the works.
The new era Orient Express will have its first property be an addition to the hotels in Bangkok Thailand, with the property set to open in one of the major landmarks in Bangkok, the King Power Mahanakhon.
The Orient Express train pretty much redefined rail travel back in the 1900s, introducing the 1st sleeper cars that linked the East to the West. The train was described as delivering the highest levels of comfort and dining, with the Orient Express Mahanakhon Bangkok set to carry that legacy of quality forward.
King Power Group CEO says that the launch of the world’s first Orient Express Hotel at King Power Mahanakhon is part of their efforts to create an extraordinary landmark that celebrate Bangkok, as well as adding a new milestone to the hospitality industry in Thailand and the world.
Chairman and CEO of Accor Hotels Asia-Pacific expressed pride that the brand will be bringing the multicultural heritage, mystery and exoticism of the Orient Express brand to the Thai capital.
Designer Tristan Auer was in charge of bringing the Art Deco stylings and the plant motif that was part of the Orient Express train’s identity into a modern skyscraper, one that’ll stand amidst the many hotels in Bangkok Thailand, as a landmark in the capital. The King Power Mahanakhon is currently the tallest building in the capital, due, in part, to its glass curtain exterior, whose cuboid spiral cut-outs giving it a pixelated appearance.
SNCF Group has owned the Orient Express brand, and has been developing it during that time. They still own the actual seven Orient Express train cars, which can be used by Orient Express for private journeys and special events, which may be used by Accor Hotels for their other businesses.
Accor Hotels recently announced its expansion across India with two new properties, with a Raffles hotel in Udaipur, and a Fairmont hotel in Mumbai, near the airport. This new partnership, then, fits the group’s plans for global expansion.
