Calgary’s been working on attracting big businesses to the city in order to diversify its economy, and it seems to be working, with global software development company ESQ Business Services having chosen the city for its Canadian headquarters.
ESQ Business Services have been looking for a location for their latest subsidiary, Coudexa Technology Inc. The company already has offices in India, Mexico, Singapore, the UK, and the US, and has been looking at Canadian cities for locations, but ultimately decided to choose Calgary.
The choice was made thanks to some work put in by Calgary Economic Development program, which has been working on promoting Calgary in order to diversify the city’s economy.
ESQ CEO Paul Sandhu stated that the Calgary Economic Development’s efforts to attract investment in technology sectors outside of the usual oil and gas fields was a big factor in their decision in launching their new unit in the city of Calgary. He notes that working with the CED and their partners helped in greatly speeding up the process of starting their Cloudexa Technology software development operation by several months.
Calgary Business and Local Economy Program Sonya Sharp stated that they understand that time is key for any business looking to open up in Calgary, which is why the city, she says, focused on making their processes go as quickly and efficiently as possible for businesses.
She added that Calgary also recognizes that they need to improve things in order to make it easier for businesses to get a foothold in the city, and that also includes tightening their partnerships, like with the CED, in order to make sure that they can market the city effectively to potential businesses, and then get their doors open quickly once they actually make it into the city.
CED President and Chief Executive Officer Mary Moran stated that the decision made by ESQ Business Solutions says a lot about the city, noting that ESQ Business Solutions is a major tech sector leader, so for them to choose Calgary is speaks volumes what they can offer to companies as a technology and business hub in Canada.
